Bible In a Year--Review and Giveaway

The cover of this Bible just draws me in. It says pick me up and read me every time I pass by.  I received a copy of this Bible from Tommy Nelson to review as a Tommy Nelson Mommy. It is a New Century Version and is a Bible in a Year. It is set on a fifth grade reading level so all of my kids can read it, no matter their reading level. It's easier for some and a little challenging for others. It is divided into daily selections from both Testaments, Psalms and Proverbs. It also has extra insert pages. We are currently using this Bible for our daily reading. It is great for our evening Bible reading and helps us fulfill our schools daily reading requirement.

I would love for you to join our family as we read through the Bible in 2014. Will you join us? Enter below to win a copy of your own for you and your family.

Every Day a Blessing--Review and Giveaway

Every Day a Blessing is a wonderful book of short devotions for elementary aged children. Although I would also recommend it for younger children. You can even get it for kindle. It isn't dated and has daily and weekend devotions, scripture and ways to see blessings in your life or to be a blessing to someone else.

I'll be honest with you there was a little argument when this book came. We looked through it, read a few of the devotions to see how we liked it and then two of the kids decided to take off with it. They finally decided they could share it and both of them could be blessed. But then we had younger visitors who got really excited about the cover of the book. So we added this book to their collection. We hope they are blessed and bless others every day because of it. And I'm going to purchase a copy of it for those two kiddos who know they did the right thing but really want that book.

Would you like to bless a child today with this book? Just enter below!

My Friend Jesus--The Gospel for Kids--Review and Giveaway

I received a copy of the book My Friend Jesus-The Gospel for Kids by Kathryn Slattery to review. My kids loved it! All four of my kiddos have asked Jesus in their heart and have been baptized.

This book is written in such a way that children can understand. It has no denominational affiliation so no matter what church you attend this is a great book to tell the gospel story about Jesus. It also has a prayer at the end that helps guide children in their relationship with Jesus.

The illustrations are absolutely beautiful. My kids decided to share this book with a younger friend who knows about Jesus but hasn't asked him in to his heart. We hope that this book will help him out.

Would you like to share this book with a child you know? Fill in the entry form below. One winner will be selected randomly. Contest ends Friday, January 31st.

Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book to review with my family from Tommy Nelson because I'm a Tommy Nelson Mommy. Opinions are my own and I received no monetary compensation.

Titanic Family Adventure

Yea, I know it's not supposed to be an adventure, although I think that's what it started out as for so many aboard, almost 101 years ago. While it is an intriguing story for so many of us it is a very sad story also.

It's a story that our family has had the privilege to experience several times over the last year and half. We went for our first time in June 2011 and fell in love with the Titanic and her story. Read all about it  here! Mattie, my history buff would move in I believe, because she learns something new every time she goes. We visited again in April 2012 for the 100 year Tribute to the Titanic. What a celebration of life and a memorial to those aboard.

We visited on Thanksgiving. The Titanic was beautifully decorated for Christmas, but there was a special treat that night, fireworks and snow. The fireworks were beautiful and the snow was wonderful.  I have some really neat pictures but for some reason they won't load, sorry.

From the 100 Year Tribute
We love the Titanic Crew. Every single person is always so warm and welcoming when they see you. This evening was no different, even though they were missing out on family time. Even Mrs. Joslyn one of the owners herself was there. I think it is really neat that the Joslyn's are hands on with the Titanic. We have seen Mrs. Joslyn several times we have been there. The first time she told us about the timeline board. We didn't have any idea who she was at the time, but later learned her identity.

This year is the Year of the Child. Those who visit will learn the stories of the 133 children aboard the Titanic. There is also a Princess Tea Party coming up in April, for all those little girls in your life. And you won't want to miss the third annual Professional Ice Carving Competition on January 19th. Titanic will honor teachers again in February with a free ticket. January through May offers homeschoolers special rates.

Titanic is closed this week until January 11th for its cleaning and set up of the new exhibit honoring the children. But never fear,  I have a family pass to give away. I want you to have the opportunity to explore, remember and enjoy the excitement of the Titanic.

Leave me a comment below to enter to win the family pass which is good for two adults and four children. It expires February 28th so you will need to use it soon.

Tell me what intrigues you about the Titanic in the comments below to be entered to win.

You have until midnight January 11th to enter. I will use random.org to select a winner.

Disclaimer: I received a free family admission to the Titanic on Thanksgiving and received another to giveaway.

PS: You can click through any of the purple links to find out more about the Titanic.

Grace for the Moment--365 Devotionals for Kids--Giveaway

I'm a little behind in my reviews. So this is the first of four giveaways this month. I hope to have them all on the blog by the end of the week.

The first is for Max Lucado's  Grace for the Moment 365 Devotionals for Kids. This is adapted from the adult version Grace for the Moment. You can check out these books by clicking through any of the links in this post.

Each day's devotion has a scripture verse, devotion and kid friendly activity called "Growing in Grace." They are dated so if you aren't consistent or like to use several different devotion books you can just go to that particular day and you haven't missed anything in between.

We have several devotional books that the kids use and they seem to like that this one because it is a quick read.

The winner of this book will actually receive Grace for the Moment for Kids and the original Grace for the Moment for adults.

Here is a link for a glimpse of the kids version Grace for the Moment for Kids.

This link is for the two week challenge which gives you two free weeks of devotionals from each book. They are in PDF and will only take about 15 minutes to do with your family. There are also some great tips for leading devotionals. Here is the link Grace Challenge.

Be on the look out for a book geared to teens plus two other giveaways this week.

I'm trying out Rafflecopter for the first time. I hope it makes it easier for you to register to win. It also gives you more chances to win.

Disclaimer: As usually Tommy Nelson gave me a copy of this book to read and review. Tommy Nelson will mail the winner a copy too.

From Blah to Awe--Giveaway for Teens

From Blah to Awe is a new book by Jenna Lucado Bishop written for teens. But I must say as a 35 year old, wife and mother of four I loved this book. It's a soul searching book that helps you to understand the difference between religion and faith and what your relationship with God needs to be like.

It's not a "feel good" book, it makes you take a hard look at your relationship with God in a way that you can understand. God loves and cherishes you and wants you to have an awesome relationship with Him.

Every teen girl needs to read this book!

You can read an excerpt by clicking here From Blah to Awe.

You can win a copy of this book for an important teen in your life by answering the following question in the comments section below by midnight June 30th.

What area of your faith, or your teen's faith if you're a parent, would you like to light a fire under?

Good Luck!

Giveaway--The Beauty Book

Last month I gave away the fiction book Here's Lily. This month I am excited to offer the nonfiction companion book The Beauty Book. It is geared toward the 7-11 age group and is full of information about hair, clothing, skin care and more. The most important thing girls will learn from this book is that their confidence in God should be first and foremost.

My eight year old has enjoyed reading Here's Lily. She isn't so much into beauty things yet, but my ten year old is. We have been working through the book and answering the questions.

I have one copy of the The Beauty Book (click this link to read a little of it) to give away this month.

Here's Lily--Book Giveaway

Another awesome book from Tommy Nelson to giveaway this weekend.

If you know anything about my kids you know Maggie loves to read. The other three, well maybe if it's raining outside and the power is out and all the games are put away.

So when Here's Lily the first in a series came in the mail, she was very excited to get it read.

Maggie tells me, "It's about a girl and of course her name is Lily, Mom. A women comes to school and gives Lily a makeover and she decides to be a model. Well Mom you have to read the book to find out what happens in the end!"

I asked, "Maggie would you recommend this book to your friends?"
"YES, this is a fun book to read and you learn lots of things too," she said.

Thanks Maggie for the interview, guess I'll be reading Here's Lily for my book of the week.

I know you want to read Here's Lily with your daughter. It's written for the 4-7 age group and it's companion nonfiction book is also available to purchase through Tommy Nelson called The Beauty Book.

Comment on the question below to win your own copy of Here's Lily. Contest ends at midnight, Sunday, June 3rd.

How do you apply God’s definition of beauty with your daughter’s in today’s world?

Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book to review and give my opinion about and Tommy Nelson will mail the winner a copy too!

Swipe - Book Giveaway

Today's Tommy Nelson Kids giveaway is a book for Tweens and Teens titled SWIPE. I will admit I haven't had time to read this book. I have looked at the trailer and it looks very much like a teen version of the adult Left Behind Series.

scaled_e1334758599.jpg
Logan's 13th birthday is just around the corner. The world is different post-apocalyptic and everyone is having to get the "Mark." The mark is a tattoo that when swiped tells everything about you. Logan has an eery feeling he is being watched and isn't sure he wants the mark. His sister never came back from getting hers. Logan and his friends set out to find the truth about the mark.

My middle school friend Greta has read it and says she would recommend it to her friends. She is also excited for the new book to come out this fall.

Here is a link to the flipbook for Swipe. It will allow you to read the first few pages.

Would you like to get this book in the hands of your teen? I think it would be a great parent/child read together. If you've never done that you should. You both read the same chapters each day and then discuss what you've read and how it affects you, in this case your faith.

To enter to win answer the following question in the comment below. You have until midnight, Sunday, June 3rd.

How do encourage your children to become free-thinkers and discover their faith on their own while still protecting them within your home?

Disclaimer: Remember I am not paid for my reviews but I am given copies to review and share with you!

Hermie--God Listens When I Pray--Giveaway

Young readers often have trouble understanding what they are reading. They also have trouble understanding how God works in their lives. Max Lucado's, Hermie: God Listens When I Pray  is a great book to help them understand how God listens when we pray.

As the Mom of 4, I often forget that they all aren't on the same playing field in their walk with God. While we pray every morning on the way to school, and now during summer break at breakfast, they all pray for different things and people. Depending on which child is praying determines what and who they are praying for.

Mollie who is 5 always prays for the dogs, ours and the neighbors, which then leads to the neighbors being prayed for too. Mattie usually prays for each of us and our day. Maggie typically prays for friends, classmates, family and other needs she has heard of. Michael always prays for safety, particularly when it's dark and rainy. Mikie and I pray for them as we put them to bed.

No matter which child is praying, God is always listening. This book helps children learn more about praying. Encourage your children to read and pray with this book.

Want one of your own? Leave a comment below and tell me about your prayer routine. It's okay if you don't have a routine, we have really just started ours the last few months.

Don't forget to leave your comment by midnight, Thursday, May 31st. I will use random.org to choose a winner.

Disclaimer: Thomas Nelson sent me this book to review and allows me to give one away.

BIble Bee 2012/Giveaway

Our family is participating in the 4th Annual Bible Bee this summer. We will receive our study pack the first week on June.

I had seen a link on another Mom blogger's site and clicked through. After looking over the info I believe this will be a great way for the kids to learn Bible skills they can use all their lives.

The program is 12 weeks long with you practicing at home and if you live close enough practice drills before the final contest on Saturday, August 25th.  Below is some info about the Bible Bee from their webpage.

"Our desire is to help your family move closer to God and closer to one another as you learn, live out, and celebrate His Word. Register your children ages 7-18 years for the 2012 Bible Bee and learn how we can equip and encourage a lifestyle of investing in and living out your relationship with Christ.

In return for the $30 Registration Fee, each contestant receives, on June 1st:

  • 25 Bible Memory Cards. That works out to just over 2 cards per week during the summer, a "do-able" goal for your whole family!

  • A Bible in one of five translations

  • A "Sword Study" in-depth study on one book of the Bible leveled for three age groups, enabling the whole family to study the same book at the same pace. Sword Studies don't just teach the Bible, they teach a lifelong skill of how to study and apply the Bible, in just 20 minutes a day.

  • An official participant Bible Bee T-shirt and button

  • Gifts from our ministry partners that support the Sword Study learning

  • A Parent Guidebook that gives a solid overview of the study and includes a Family Bonfire Guide, so that you can easily lead your family in fun times of learning and sharing what the Lord has taught you throughout the week."

Mattie is very excited about the Bible Bee, she hopes in will help her with the Bible Drill that she participates in at church during the school year.

I am excited to be able to offer FREE registration to one lucky reader. Even if there isn't a Bible Bee Contest close to you register to win. We are going to participate this year and my host the contest next year.

Leave a comment below and you will be registered to win a registration.

Disclaimer: We received a family registration in exchange for blog post about our experience this summer with the Bible Bee.
